Pre-Conceptional Counseling & Family Planning

At One to One FemaleCare, we offer pre-conceptional counseling and family planning services to women who are considering having children. When a couple decides they are ready to start planning a family, before they even begin trying to get pregnant, it can be very helpful to schedule a preconception counseling appointment with an obstetrician. The doctor will require information about health and family medical history as well as lifestyle and habits of both partners. Any medications currently being taken and alcohol and tobacco use will be discussed. Honesty is essential, as this can enable the doctor to determine whether there are any issues that might potentially be harmful to the mother or baby during pregnancy.

If anything in the couple's background indicates a recommendation for genetic screening, these options will be explained. Vaccinations may be needed for some patients and an outline is provided for precautions to take to reduce the risk of certain birth defects. The doctor will prescribe or recommend a prenatal vitamin to take daily, beginning before conception and continuing during pregnancy. Aside from other beneficial nutrients, prenatal vitamins contain folic acid, which has been proven to prevent neural tube defects. The doctor may also make suggestions as to the patient's nutritional needs and safely exercising during pregnancy. We recommend a consultation approximately three to six months before trying to conceive.

Pregnancy & Delivery

Pregnancy is an important time in a woman's life. Having the proper medical care and knowledge is an essential part to having a successful term and delivery of your baby. At One to One FemaleCare, we are involved in all aspects of maternity care: prenatal, delivery and post-natal. Our experienced team can help you every step of the way on this incredible journey.

Prenatal care is crucial for your baby's healthy development. Regular doctor's visits are recommended and allow for professional monitoring of fetal health. A regular appointment includes checking the baby's heart rate, your blood pressure, urine and weight. Ultrasounds can be performed to visually check on the baby's development.

In developing a pregnancy partnership with your doctor, you will work together to ensure a safe and successful delivery. It is important to choose a doctor you trust for this journey. With the skills and capabilities to prepare and guide you along this journey, our practice is a reliable and trustworthy choice.

High-Risk Maternity Care

In addition to our general obstetrical services, we provide care for high risk pregnancies. This includes women with pre-existing medical conditions, multiple births or abnormal pregnancies which carry an increased risk of complications. Our doctors strive to develop a strong, trusting relationship with their patients in order to help them experience a smooth pregnancy.

Some conditions that may increase the risk of complication during pregnancy or delivery include:

  • Diabetes
  • High blood pressure
  • Thyroid disorders
  • Heart disease
  • Cancer
  • Gestational diabetes
  • Premature birth
  • Recurrent miscarriage

For these women, we provide frequent monitor exams and special delivery techniques to ensure a healthy pregnancy. A regular appointment at One to One FemaleCare includes checking the baby's heart rate, checking your blood pressure, urine and weight and performing an ultrasound when necessary.
